Daryl Davis Lecture and Discussion: How can you hate me when you don’t even know me?

June 22 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

at Vienna Community Center
(Sponsored by Becoming Beloved Community)

Daryl DavisAn encounter with prejudice early in life led black musician Daryl Davis on a quest to determine the source of the hate. Davis has attended countless KKK rallies and developed relationships with Klan leaders. His unorthodox yet simple approach has wielded surprising results.

Daryl Davis graduated from Howard University with a degree in Jazz. He performs nationally and internationally with The Daryl Davis Band, and has worked with such notables as Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley’s Jordanaires, and The Legendary Blues Band.

This discussion event is presented as part of the Town of Vienna’s Liberty Amendments Month, and is free and open to all ages! Registration is encouraged.

The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with Madison High School Capstone Project Reports: Bridging Slavery and Freedom. This year, the capstone history class of James Madison High focused on local individuals whose lives crossed the historical bridge between our country’s slave and free years. Led by teacher Christina Palo, students were placed in pairs and directed to do original research on their chosen subjects, and to propose a fitting memorial for their lives and contributions. Several outstanding student pairs will present their results.
