FACETS
Fairfax Area Christian Emergency and Transitional Services (FACETS) is a non-profit organization that provides comprehensive programs and services—supportive housing, basic needs and emergency assistance, educational programs, eviction prevention services, medical outreach, and counseling—to people who are homeless or are otherwise precariously housed in Fairfax County.
For the past 30 years, Holy Comforter has partnered with FACETS to provide critical support to Fairfax County residents who are homeless or living in poverty. Holy Comforter is one of 33 area churches who supports FACETS with effective volunteers and financial support.
Our support focuses on three of FACETS’ programs:
1. Outreach Services – Holy Comforter contributed $1,700 last year to help our brothers and sisters in need gain access to affordable housing, job opportunities, medical treatment and mental health resources.
2. Hot Meals Program – Holy Comforter is one of the area churches that help to deliver hot, nutritious meals every day of the year to the 110 people in need at two locations in Fairfax City A dozen dedicated Holy Comforter parishioners gather in our church kitchen on the second Sunday of every month to purchase, prepare, bag and deliver this hot meal to these homeless individuals.
The FACETS team welcomes new team members to help with delivery of hot meals. The time commitment is about an hour and a half, and you can decide whether to volunteer for one month or more. This is a great opportunity to give back and interact with community members who receive the meals. If you’re interested, please contact Laura Gori or sign up below. If you are interested in volunteering sometime but don’t want to sign up in advance, please email Laura, and she’ll contact you when an extra driver is needed. Thank you!
3. Hypothermia Prevention and Response Program – Each winter, 100 church volunteers ensure that the neediest among us have access to a warm place to rest and nourishing hot food including dinner, breakfast and a lunch to go. In addition to food and comfort, Holy Comforter provides transportation for our guests on cold winter nights and mornings to their job sites or the Metro.
