In 1974, a group of 11 women and their supporters organized their ordination as Episcopal priests in an act of civil disobedience, challenging the very essence of patriarchy within Christendom. Come see the Virginia premiere of the ground-breaking documentary film that tells their story.
The ordination of the Philadelphia Eleven nearly fifty years ago opened the way for an historically patriarchal institution to live more fully into equity across the gender spectrum. While there is still much work to do to dismantle oppression in all its forms, the Episcopal Church has inarguably been changed because of what happened on July 29, 1974 at the Church of the Advocate in Philadelphia.
Popcorn, pizza, and beverages will be served before the film at 6:00 pm. A facilitated discussion will follow the film. All are welcome!
Please RSVP for pizza dinner so that we know how much food to provide.
