Book and Movie Club: Traces of the Trade

August 21 @ 6:00 pm

(Sponsored by Becoming Beloved Community)

Traces of the TradeLaunched this summer, our special book and movie club meets monthly, alternating between discussing books and movies, featuring titles that will deepen our understanding of racial justice. We include fiction and nonfiction, drama and documentaries.

Our second session will be Saturday, August 21 at 6:00 p.m. in the Ministry Center.

Film maker Kartrina Browne was proud of her DeWolf ancestors, prominent New England Episcopalians. While in seminary, she made the troubling discovery that the DeWolfs were the largest slave-trading family in US history. This film is the story of the physical and emotional journey she and other family members took as they retraced the Triangle Trade from Rhode Island to Ghana to Cuba, and back home again.

Aired nationally in 2008 as part of PBS’s POV series, the film will be shown in the Ministry Center after our Saturday evening Holy Eucharist. A discussion period facilitated by the Rev. Jon Strand will follow. Pizza and beverages will be provided.
