“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11: 29 (The Message version)
The annual Parish Retreat at Shrine Mont is a wonderful time to get away from the stresses of everyday life and to refresh your body and soul. Our retreat leader this year is Scott Stoner, founder of Living Compass, a program focused on helping people bring balance to their lives. He will lead us in exploring the spiritual, emotional, and physical dimensions of the “unforced rhythms of grace” through meditative walking—a way to walk contemplatively and compassionately with God, our neighbor, and ourselves.
Beginning at the Parish Retreat, and then in small group sessions in October and November, you have an opportunity to examine your life, using the Living Compass curriculum. Areas of focus are Care of Body, Stress, Vocation, Organization, Rest and Play, Spirituality, Emotions, and Relationships. Is your life balanced? Scott Stoner has served the community for 40 years as both a priest and a marriage and family therapist. His passion in ministry is the integration of spirituality, healing, and wellness, with a special emphasis on creating resources for use in local congregations. In addition to his coaching and counseling work, he served as a rector of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Milwaukee, WI, from 2001 to 2008.
He is the founder of the Living Compass Spiritualiy & Wellness Initiative and Wellness Ministry. This national wellness ministry creates and provides a wide range of educational and small-group resources for adults, teens, parents, and congregations. Retreat on 2 Feet is the newest offering from Living Compass, and he is excited to share it with the people of Holy Comforter.
