Saint Mary’s Altar Guild
Under the direction of the Rector, St. Mary’s Altar Guild at Church of the Holy Comforter is the ministry of preparing and maintaining the altars, sacred vessels, linens and vestments for our worship services. The Altar Guild performs a “silent” ministry to our Parish, offering our service to glorify God, working in the Sacristies to prepare the elements used in the Eucharistic service (bread, wine, chalice, paten, and linens), and in the sacred spaces to prepare the Altar, the flowers, and the candles to enhance our worship. In addition, a member of the Altar Guild will act as coordinator for all wedding ceremonies.
Guided by the Rector and clergy, Lolly Mixter is the Chair of the Altar Guild. Membership is open to all parishioners age thirteen and older; we welcome new members at any time. New members receive “on the job” training as well as printed materials to help them become familiar with terminology and “why we do what we do.”
Each member of the Altar Guild is assigned to one of four rotating teams; the teams take responsibility for setting the worship spaces for all services (Saturday, Sunday, Baptisms, Funerals, Weddings and Occasional liturgies) taking place during one week each month, all according to a printed schedule. All four teams work together with decorating and services responsibilities during the Christmas, Holy Week, and Easter seasons. Interested parishioners should speak to a member of the clergy or contact Lolly Mixter.
